The village is part of the Schist Village Network.
In Álvaro, the houses are mostly plastered and painted, or commonly referred to as the white village.
The schist is the basis for construction and the plastering is due to the fact that the village was once a very noble villa and county seat. This is a statute inherited from its history through which the Visigoths, Romans passed and which was an important base for the Malta Order.
